Im just in the process of replacing some hardware, on an nw6 box.

basically a fresh install then manually recreate users and copy across data.

the h/w is new i've got nw6 with the latest full support pack. plus arcserve 7 ( yikes) and all the patches for that.

server board is intel se7501hg2 with a scsi hd and 1gb memory

although arcserve is installed im not running it.

my basic test on the server is a large file transfer. drag and drop a 1gb file from pc to server. after a short while the server hangs. nothing in any of the error logs.

some times i get a "internal stack overflow message some times nothing" im also getting this on boot some times. somtimes a stack error somtimes just a hang.

its worse from a warm boot.

i've maxed the settings in config.sys but no change.

Any ideas is it hardware, if so processor/memory or what

HELP!!!!

I would not consider a 1GB file test a "basic" test.. If you want to do "Basic" testing, start with a directory that had 100MB or so. See how it responds to that.. Then try to copy it back to your workstation.

Also, the Config.sys has nothing to do with the functionality of your server. What settings did you MAX? If you're adding stuff in there, you're probably making the problem worse. Delete your CONFIG.SYS file and see if that helps.
