Hi, using Remote Mgr. the CPU graph shows constant spiking from 1% to 98% and back, every 3-4 seconds. We have NAV corporate and "managed desktops" with virus definitions current. Is there some way to zero in on which device may be the culprit?

Thanks,

Using the MONITOR tool, go to Kernel - Threads to see what is using the CPU

Thanks Brent for responding!

Discovered that the activity was "metered", regular as clockwork - and that was the key. It was clock-driven and wound up being the Norton Antivirus corporate NLM that prowls the network on a set schedule of every few seconds. When it does, it spikes the CPU graph to 98%, holds for 3 seconds and drops back to normal. I guess it's OK, just wonder what would happen if, during that same moment there was a flurry of other activity on the network (like on payroll day) if it might impact performance.

i always beleive that if it spikes for short periods then it's not really a prob as the processor is making use of something that would otherwise be idle

if it sits at a set percentage constantly even say 70% then i worry

Good point, Terry

Thanks to all for your input.
