I have a netware 4.11 server (SP 9, DS 6.21, DSREPAIR 4.73a)that runs Groupwise 5.26, DNS 4.01a (Unicon 5.18), DHCP 2.10r, PSERVER 5.00, is a Norton Antivirus distribution server, and has a couple of volumes for file storage. I need to migrate to a new IBM x235 with NW6. I realize that I will probably need to recreate print queues, etc. and reinstall NAV. Can anyone confirm that Groupwise 5.26 will be happy on NW6? Will existing DNS and DHCP information be incorporated into NW6? I have already accumulated and tested the necessary drivers for RAID, CD, Tape, and NICs. Anything I may be overlooking? Thanx for any help.

NW4.11 to NW6 Migration Assurances

pq 's will migrate fine - stronly recommend to go to ndps though (assume you are going to use migration wizard - if so make sure not one from cd - download most up to date)
unicon isnt there anymore - not sure if the dns and that imports - imagine it would no probs - dhcp - would be inclined just to shorten lease right down and then recreate it (but may stand corrected on this)
groupwise - are you meaning 5.2 or 5.5

You can import DNS/DHCP info without much hassle. Or even recreate it.
I just did a NetWare 6.5 migration and GroupWise 5.5 runs fine on it. Although we're now upgrading groupwise, but for a couple weeks it's been running fine on the older version. Can't vouch for older version of groupwise.
Make sure you put IPX on the nw6 server until after you're ready to get rid of the 4.11 server.
Honestly I hate migrations. It's easier to create a new server and leave it alone, then move services and files. Then you don't have to deal with server name changes, DS problems, etc.

Print queues will migrate with out issue as long as the printers are shut down. If you can isolate the server (practical in single server enviroment), the better. Keeps people from goofing with the server from the network while you are migrating.
GroupWise 5.2 will run fine, have a few clients running it on 6 (tight IT budgets). Only snafu you will run into is that GroupWise 5.2 requires NWADMN95.EXE for the snap-ins to work. GW5.2 snapins do not work with NWADMN32.EXE. So SAVE that copy of NWADMN95 from your 4.11 box, NW6 does not include the NWADMN95 executable.

There is a safer way of doing this also. Takes longer, but I have had less issues doing it this way (and Novell Consulting uses this method in some cases also). This longer route ensures your NICI and CA services migrate with out causing you an issue. In NetWare 5.1, the CA didn't make much of a deal and wasn't really used for much. In NetWare 6, if your CA objects are not in good shape, your network will suck jingle bells and none of the kewl new features will function.
If you want to ensure you have NSS volumes
1. Inplace upgrade the server to NetWare 5.1
2. Accross the wire migration to NetWare 6.0
You would use this way if your current server can handle NW5.1. At a minimum, the server should be 200MHz, 256MB ram. It will be darn slow, but it will work for the mean time.
If you don't care about NSS volumes
1. Across the wire to NetWare 5.1
2. Inplace to NetWare 6.0
Come back for help as needed, you have a couple consultants in here that have done this many many many times.
