Hi guys,

we will be deploying a new VMware environment to house our dev and qas SAP environments. The VMware backups will be done by Legato but require it to run on Windows 2003.

The backup server is now quite old and there is little space on the system partition so we will be moving legato to a new server.

We have started copying the scripts and install files to bkp02.

Next week sometime we will be doing the following:

backup the D:\services\NSR folder and copy to bkp02
shutdown bkp01
remove the fibre cards and place in bkp02
rename bkp02 to 01 and move original IP
restore the NSR folder

I have a couple of questions that I hope u can help with:

Will the licensing still work if we keep the same name and IP?
What is the Legato GST service, is it required?
Is this migration as simple as it looks or am i missing something.

Thanks in advance

I assume the old server was using Windows as well. In this case, the migration is pretty easy.

Licensing wise, you need new auth-codes as you SID changed. If you do not have them, the server would timeout after 2 weeks.

The procedure is called a "host transfer". You may even do this via powerlink which is very convenient.

The GST service is the database service for the new (7.3) NW Management Console which replaces the older NW admin interface. Yes you need that.

Obviously you have not worked with NW 7.3 before. License-wise, this would become an update, which means that you would also need an update enabler/auth-code.

Thanks 605 you always a star.

just 1 thing, we not upgrading to 7.3 yet, staying on 7.1.3 for the moment, just better hardware..

Thanks

Hi guys,

I'd like to install a tape drive on a new server. My idea is to install legato on the new one, then to copy files who are necessary to keep the old configuration of back up system.

You seem to know how it's possible, and I'd like to know wich are the names of the folders and the files to copy, because i'm not the admin, and he doesn't want to look for this folders and files during too long hours.

Can you help me to send it to him by saying me all the names needed, please...

Hi Mbire,

The folder you looking for is you nsr folder.. by default its installed on your c:\program files

the easiest way i discovered is to ntbackup the entire drive and then restore it onto the new server..

Best of luck

Thanks a lot Titann for your explanation, it will help me a lot!

I hope i'd help you next time.
