nvidia geforce 6800 4

Can't get this thing to install on a Gigabyte GA-K8NS motherboard.
The graphics card is actually a Galaxy Glacier 6800 128 MB and the OS is xp pro sp2.
We get a yellow blob in device manager and the card properties say
This device cannot start. (Code 10)
Any help appreciated, I have a highly grumpy teenager to contend with.

I've got a Gigabyte K8N Neo2 motherboard and Inno 3D Geforce 6800GT - no problems as yet although it didn't work too well before I installed the drivers from the CD.

I get the same error msg with my USB wireless network stick though. I sorted it by uninstalling the drivers, taking out the stick. Reinstalling the drivers, then putting the stick back in and when windows detects it choosing a driver from the CD rather than the windows folder. Might work for your graphics card?

Do you have on board graphics as well?

You should also change to AGP in the bios, otherwise the computer may look for a PCI graphics card. Check this in your motherboard manual.

We've tried drivers from xp, the video card cd and the website. All exactly the same.
It doesn't have on board graphics.
The card properties do say pci, but I can't see any way of changing that in the bios. The only agp settings are Flexible AGP which is set to Auto, Init Display First set to AGP and AGP Overclock which is set to 66, the default. Where do you change to AGP?

Remove all traces of previos graphics drivers, possibly revert to a previous card then remove drivers, download the latest 66.93's from Nvidia

Latest DirectX 9C? loaded
Recommend Service pack2
I presume you are using XP?

Have you plugged in the required extra molex connector?
Is your power supply powerful enough for this power hungry card (good quality 400watt plus)

empois, isn't a K8N Neo2 made by MSI?

Recommend Service pack2 Using it

Is your power supply powerful enough for this power hungry card (good quality 400watt plus) Slightly less, but that shouldn't stop the thing installing should it?

We haven't tried putting another card in and wiping out nvidia stuff completely. I'll try that tomorrow.

I suppose it could be a duff card/motherboard?

Probably just a confused one lol
The reason I mentioned PSU is that the card might need so many amps to initialize "fire up" so to speak but I am clutching at straws.
I wonder what it would do with a clean install hmmmmmm? my thoughts are if the card was fitted whilst clean installed it would work but hey (he shrugs his shoulders and raises his hands palms up)

I meant to mention the possible use of a third part driver cleaner to be sure of previos driver removal.

Haven't checked that. Thanks. I don't think we blew it up. I haven't done anything today, been trying to persuade my daughter's new pc to play Ghostmaster and the Sims properly. Should have got them a stick and a hoop. I'll try the above suggestions on Sam's tomorrow pm work permitting.

not sure if it will resolve the problem but If it states PCI when it should be AGP you need to update your motherboard chipset, I have the same issue on my pc when i re-istall windows

Stars all round, and thanks.
Spent a long time on the phone with the supplier, they are rma'ing the whole thing.
Drivercleaner etc don't work as the nvidia drivers are not installing.
Motherboard chipset done, same result.
5900 video card installed, same code 10 result.
Stuff won't be collected until after Christmas, so I'll update this thread when it is fixed.

Well, I'd have checked to make sure all the BIOS defaults are loaded on the PC.

It is possible that there were custom setups for AGP driving and signal strengths. I didn't have time to look up your motherboard to see if the BIOS for that board comes with said settings, but it was just something that popped into my head.

I know my BIOS has quite a few AGP slot customizations which could render the card/slot inoperable...

Disregarding that, sorry to hear of your troubles, RMA'ing stuff is always the pits.

Wasn't though. The replacement board was exactly the same. I reinstalled xp, then directx9, then the motherboard drivers off the cd that came with the board and then the video driver that came with the graphics card and not the 'latest' from the web site.
All fine. So I don't actually know what the problem was.

Still not sorted? or sorted?
Once SP2 in on there there should be no need to install DX9.

I would have gone:

XP install
Latest Nvidia unified platform drivers
SP2 install (no need to seperately install DX9c)
Latest Nvidia 66.93's


I do hope everthing is OK?
