Hi, i have an ASUS AGP-V7100 video/display card with Nvidia GeForce2 mx GPU Chip.

I uninstalled the "ASUS display" drivers in the add/remove programs list. I then updated my VIA chipset driver. I then ran a NVIDIA driver update from NVIDIA.com's driver archive. I got this message during installation:

NVIDIA Setup Error: Setup was unable to lacate any NVIDIA graphics chips on this system. The instalation will be terminated.

I should note that i had gotten this message before a few months ago when trying to update without first uninstalling the existing drive. So updating the chipset driver was not a factor, i just mentioned that i did that because i was advised to uninstall nvidia drivers before updating my VIA chipset driver.FYI

Also i should mention that i had updated my chipset by getting the driver directly from nvidia.com (not ASUS) a few years ago without a problem.

Asus has stopped providing updates for my card, or it has awful site navigation.

So does anyone know why my Nvidia chip can't be detected by the installation program?

thanks for your time, Simon

P.S if someone wants it i can post a long system info list

If you have a Via chipset motherboard how could you update them from the Nvidia website?

Or are you talking about your graphics cards GPU? (graphics processing unit)

You need a "driver cleaner/removal tool" basically a tool to get rid of all traces of the old driver.

Then download the latest unified drivers from the Nvidia website.
These unified drivers work with any Nvidia card TNT to the present 6800 series.
These are for XP but follow the link if other OS

I was going to suggest you go to regedit and delete all references to nvidia. Uninstalls are notorious for leaving bits and pieces all over and they can cause lots of probs, just like you have.
But i see paparazzi has provided a link, if there is a cleaner there then of course you should use that. But if not then you can use regedit. Always make a backup copy before you start, but as long as you remove nvidia references you should be fine.
