I'm a "newbie" to DNS but feel there's a problem.

When using IE I am unable to connect to my home web site using ' but can connect using '
I learned recently that our primary DNS address was changed from it's original to something else but the secondary DNS address is our provider's primary.

Would this explain why the alpha address doesn't work but the numeric does?

Could someone provide a clue as to why the numeric works but not the alpha?

Oh! The alpha address is to a redirection service (No-IP.com) which reads my current address.

The IP address of a website will always work since it's routers that are used to find the site on the Internet.

As for the your website's domain name, perhaps the DNS mapping for the name no longer points to the correct IP address.
