Number Of Power Fail LInes?

Can anyone tell me if the definity switch has a limited number of power fail lines. I thought that since it by-passes the switch you could have up to the number of incoming lines. I have been told other wise but with no explanation can someone please enlighten me?

The Definity does not have powerfail lines as a standard. You would need to purchase an Emergency Transfer Panel(808A), which holds up to 8 analog lines. The ETP is what lets the analog lines contiue power when the PBX has lost power. When the PBX has no power, it has no way to let the analog lines power pass through. That is when the EPT kicks in and allows the analog line to reside on the terminated phone. One way we have ours setup is the analog phone has a DID when normal power is running, but when power is lost, the POTS lines from the EPT kick in and we are able to get a hold of the remote location.

thanks randy and I understand this part of it. We have 50 PF lines in place now but they want to add 10 more. I think the 808A draws power -48v from the switch to keep its relays open(via an alarm panel and aux port). I am not familar enough with the switch to know if we are max out or if it is an issue at all.

Without having asked myself, I would think that your only limitation would be your trunk capacity. Since the 808A is an external unit, it seems that you should be able to connect as many as you want.

I just thought about that.. If it is drawing power I can just bridge it thru the new PF blocks and away we go.
