Each of these opened on our Citrix box tries to consume 50% + processor time. Help.

NTVDM.EXE is a Virtual Machine session. NTVDM.EXE is a Win32® program. However, it uses its separate address space to create a VM that runs alongside regular Win32 processes. In other words, programs for MS-DOS and 16-bit Windows are like children belonging to the adult NTVDM process. NTVDM is just another adult Win32 process, with essentially the same rights and privileges as any other Win32-based program. I suspect that your CITRIX program is 16 bit under NT? If so that could explain your situation. You could try setting the priority of the NTVDM.EXE to a lower priority if you want to see if that helps. James Collins

Thanks for your resonse. I have tried to set the priority of the NTVDm to a lower one but receive an error "The operation could not be completed...Access is denied".

Any ideas.

How long has this been an issue? Or has it always used 50%. Some DOS style programs will use a lot of Processor time in NT because NT does not like DOS. James Collins

It has been going on since it was installed. The actuall App we use is called MMA. An old DOS App. No more than two people can connect an use the system at once because as soon as you idle on any of the menu screens it cranks the processor. Very frustrating. I have tried DOSKBD and some of the registry settings (ie. FirstCountMsgPeeksSleepBadApp...etc) and still no effect. I have contacted the vendor but I am not giving up. It would not surprise me if there is some goofy NT issue/command I can do.

I am unsure if you can use any commands to change it. Since it is an old DOS application which requires its own Virtual Machine to run it is always going to take up huge chunks of processor time. James Collins
