Hi,
when booting up on a Windows NT workstation sp6a I receive this error message

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\Winnt\system32\ntoskrnl.exe

"windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: <Winnt root>system32\ntoskrnl.exe - please re-install a copy of the above file".

How do I re-install this file to attempt a repair?

If ntfs filestore, could put drive as slave in another machine & copy new verson in from there (though this message rarely means what it says - often indication of a hardware provlem). Also (more importantly), run chkdsk on the drive while slaved to other machine.

If you haven't got access to another machine, but do have a 2k or XP install Cd, could try running recovery console from that install CD (does work with NT installations). Again, you should run chkdsk (& you can replace the ntoskrnl.exe too - put good version on a floppy).

Post back if you need more ideas.
