Hi,
I'm attempting to reinstall windows on a work computer (hp laptop, old). I inserted the 'Application and Driver Recovery DVD' as I did for the computer I am currently using a few weeks ago, and I was prompted to 'manually locate internet' or 'skip' and as I was using the cable (yes, amazing, cable) on the other laptop, chose 'skip'.
The computer then restarted and has been stuck on 'Press F11 for Emergency Recovery / NTLDR is compressed / Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart'.
I've tried F11, which brings up 'HP Backup and Recovery Manager'. This has 4 options: recover to a specific point / recover factory settings and backup data / recover factory system, drivers / back up files. I have tried each of these and wait for it all to go through only to be greeted with the 'F11 NTLDR compressed' message again.
I've tried F9 - trying to force it to boot from either the 'Application & Driver Recovery DVD', 'XP' or the 'Operating System CD' discs to no avail. Same NTLDR error.
I've tried F10 - on this machine no recovery console as suggested in the other thread - this is 'Computer Setup'. Only relevant thing in here is the boot sequence, again tried forcing from CD but doesn't work.
There are no other options given to me before the error message.
Please help!
