I have a network with two domain controllers. I received this error on the backup domain
Event Type: Error
Event Source: NTDS Replication
Event Category: Replication
Event ID: 2042
Date: 9/26/2005
Time: 9:10:14 PM
User: NT AUTHORITY\ANONYMOUS LOGON
Computer: ORLANDO
Description:
It has been too long since this machine last replicated with the named source machine. The time between replications with this source has exceeded the tombstone lifetime. Replication has been stopped with this source.
The reason that replication is not allowed to continue is that the two machine's views of deleted objects may now be different. The source machine may still have copies of objects that have been deleted (and garbage collected) on this machine. If they were allowed to replicate, the source machine might return objects which have already been deleted.
Time of last successful replication:
2005-04-20 09:26:23
Invocation ID of source:
03d2f6cc-f6bc-03d2-f00c-3d03d8de3103
Name of source:
c3ac4102-6bb1-4b88-a781-9cb24615bfe8._msdcs.hitechrent.com
Tombstone lifetime (days):
60
The replication operation has failed.
This all started when I accidentally changed the date on the PDC from September to April (Every computer on the network syncs to this time and date). When I was made aware of my mistake I promptly changed it back, but have continued to receive the 2042 error on the backup DC. Notice the time of last successful replication.
I have users who can no longer logon and other who can log on to the domain, but not their email, or cannot access their home directories (which are stored on the backup DC.)
Any way to fix this without rebuilding a server?
Thanks
