NTBackup - cannot locate the specified media??

I have an SBS2003 server running NTBackup. I just replaced my Sony tape drive since the old one was defective. Now however, I get this error message "Cannot locate the specified media or backup device. This backup operation will terminate." I have a tape for each day and they are fairly new.
I cannot format the tape, option not available, nor can I do anything media-wise. This backup worked before the old drive went bad. New drive tests OK in Sony Tape Tools.
