Will be moving to W2k mix-mode network before final native mode.
All NT4 Servers have names with underscores.
We will be using W2K DNS.

Can we keep the underscore names as long as we use DNS?.

Thanks.

In theory you can get by with underscores in the names. Win2K supports standard DNS characters for domain and host names per Request for Comments (RFC) 1123 (A through Z, a through z, and hyphen) as well as RFC 2044 (Unicode characters based on UTF-8 encoding). But most if not all of the (best-practices) documents on the subject suggest not using hyphens or underscores in your naming conventions.

Best of luck...

JL

Win2000 computers do not like underscores in the computer names. A-Z, a-z and 0-9 are safe characters to use.
