I have a PDC controlling a single domain. The PDC simply disappears from the network intermittently. It sometimes happens when files are being copied from a work station to the server.
On inspection the server always appears fine and hasn't crashed although needs a reboot to get back on the network.

The server is a PIII 500 running SP6. There are around 25 users logging on.

I have changed network cards.

There are no event viewer errors which indicate anything wrong at all.

I have checked and changed the patch lead to the switch.

Any help would be welcome

Thanks in advance

Did you try a different port in the switch or a different switch?

Have you changed cables lately or changed anything else.

When nobody can connect to it can you ping 127.0.0.1 (if you can not ping this then I would suggest blowing away the tcp/ip stack and re-installing it again)

For a quick fix try just logging out and log back in(this might help until you can solve the greater problem)

Did you reintall sp6a after installing the nic or reinstalled it lately?

Note: Whenever you load new hardware or software on windows nt the files that you load might step on the sp files so you need to reload sp's WHENEVER you make changes(to you discretion of course) Windows 2000 does not have this drawback, it will keep track of this.

Hope it helps
