Hello,

I've been tasked with migrating a nt4 network to win2000 and active directory, here's my dilemma:

the nt4 domain is named "domain01", and is hosted on an aging server that i want to retire.

i want to install win 2000 on a new server and have it be my root domain controller in active directory and have the new domain name also be "domain01".

i need both servers to coexist at least until i am able to migrate the users and groups, etc. to the new domain.

please advise,

thanks

Bring up the new server as NT 4.0 BDC.
Migrate your info.
Take down the PDC.
Promote your BDC to PDC.
Upgrade it to 2000.

Then if you have any major problems you can always bring your Old PDC back online and still be able to function.
