We recently purchased new computers with an O/S XP. The server is NT 4.0. I recently joined two or three of these computers without problems, however; the next two I tried to ad to our NT Domain will not keep the user's desktop settings. Everytime the machine is turned off the desktop and links have to be recreated. Users have administrator rights, both local and network. However I prefer they not have network administrator rights. Can anyone help me?

Not to show my stupidity but ............Licenses for ? I'm taking one computer off the domain and putting a new one on.

Also, the users already exists. They are just using O/S NT 4.0 and Windows 2000. When the administrator of the Domain logs on the XP machine the profile comes up as previously set. It's the local and roaming profiles for these two users that are not working. They are NOT logged on the system on the other computers when they log on to the XP machine.

Is there a policy for power uses I need to set to retain settings at exit? I can not find it.

Under Microsoft Admin Tools the licensing is not turned on. Is this a bad sign?

So everything works ok with 2k workstations - but not XP ones? But you can log on to XP using domain logons - but not picking up roaming profile? (but only for 2 users? - so other users ok?). And don't understand local profile reference - do new local users work ok?

PS - what does licencing control panel item show currently? Have you enough slots for new machines?

Yes to all your questions, except the last one. Local profiles for users other than Administrator will not save either.

I've been told I can legally roll back to Windows 2000 and not have these problems. So I think that's what I'm going to do.
