We plan to add a NT Server 4 to a Small Business Server 4.5 (SBS) domain.

The BDC will be used as a backup to authenticate users. I understand that the BDC cannot be used to host any of the BackOffice applications which come with SBS, but can the BDC host third party applications?

I was told by someone that a NT Server 4 BDC in a SBS 4.5 domain cannot host any applications. All applications must reside on the the SBS PDC even if they're not BackOffice applications. Is this true?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Steve

yes it is true SBS 4.5 donot support BDC, all application reside on SBS 4.5 server

For this reason (PDC/BDC), SBS should be renamed to V.SBS (Very). It is not extensible at all, and make even the simplest mirations impossible.

I recommend against it if there is EVER ANY chance of expansion (and as you well know, there is ALWAYS that chance!!)

I believe that you can run apps & file sharing of other machines - tho I have never tried it. Cheers,
Sam
