NT permissions for the everybody user

Greetings,
I have just tightened up the security settings on my NT workstation, a little too tight!

I removed the everybody permissions setting and the system will not boot.
I have attempted to run the cacls (and xcacls), once booted from the recovery cd, but neither of these command can run in DOS mode.

Does anyone know how to reset the permissions for the everybody user from dos, without booting NT ???

Bit confused. NT is not like win9x/ME - it doesn't have a dos mode. What do you mean by 'once booted from the recovery cd'?
You could try a repair or booting using last known good configuration.

The system is a laptop. It has a bootable recovery CD, that brings the system up under 95, but rather than running the recovery (and reinstalling NT) I can select to come up in dos.

I can't reboot from the last known good config, It doesn't get that far. So I need a way to reset the permissions manually .... any ideas?

Yes - you can't run NT commands from a 95 dos prompt. The only suggestions I can make is if you can find a crack (using something like a Linux boot floppy/CD) which will let you change permissions (like the one here

which allows password reset) or reinstalling NT on top of itself (you'd need to reinstall (some) software, but data would still be there).
