Hi,

We are desesperated :-(
This is our story !

The servers :

1 NT4 PDC
1 NT4 BDC
40 windows 2000 SP4 server with citrix 1,8
5 distant sites, with on each site
2 NT 4 BDC
approx. 8 windows 2000 SP4 server with citrix 1,8
wins, dhcp, dns on each site

Server Type : DELL with intel or broadcom network card
Switches and netcard speed are set to 100 Full duplex
We have XP Pro SP2 clients we add the MaintainServerList registry key on it.
We have also 95, 2000 clients

This config. works fine for 6 months but now We have 2 similar problems

Our problems :

1 -
When we try to log on the W2K server we have the following message : DC not found ...

error 5719 source netlogon No DC rpc service not available

but ping is OK, the DC responds others servers, the RPC service is up

OR

2 -
we can log on but we cannot access shares through unc name

but with ip address it's OK

Moreover the problem happens evenif the number of users is low

AND

3 -
nbtstat -a gives confict on 1C entry

To solve these problems we must reboot the server. But the symptoms come back again randomly

Sometimes the server find back the domain without manipulations

We roll back all modifications made since one month. Moreover the actions we took with no improvment

deactivate teaming

registry keys : NoNameRealeaseOnDemand, MaintainServerList, MaxDgramBuffering

deactivate MOM agents

static name in wins

jetpack on wins

deactivate Browser service (MaintainServerList)

Our suppositions :

name resolution problem
Virus
Foreign item which disturb our server
NBT layer disfunction

All suggestions are welcomed
I will inform you of the evolution
Thanks for your help
Best Regards

Tarkan

PS : I'm sorry for my poor english

Welcome to the club! I worked with Citrix and MS on this problem, for over 3 months. It's a known problem. We have installed all the patches that Citrix and MS recommend, but we still have the problem. FYI, we are running Citrix XP. The only thing I have found, people are saying they don't see the problem anymore, after they upgrade to Presentation Server 4.0. Neither Citrix or MS have acknowledged this solutioin.

Hi Koonan,

thanks for this info. But Do you upgrade or not to Presentation server 4.0.

What is your analysis

Hi,

I've a new info, I try this :

I've untick netbios over TCP IP (netcard properties) on a server which loose the domain

I click OK

Then I tick it again

and all works fine !

now we focus on netbios, can you say me if netbios is mandatory for MS network especially for sharing : I think it's YES but I would like a confirmation.

Thanks

Hi,

New info :

we adjust these registry keys :
Maxworkitem
MaxMpxct

it seems to descrease the number of server losing the domain. but not enough

We did that too. I also thought it helped, but when I started to keep records it really didn't seem to help.

My problem will be fixed in a different way. Our company was just bought by another compay, so our users will move over their Citrix servers. I will also be looking for a new job, so I don't have to worry about this problem anymore :)!

Good luck with finding a solution.

YESSSS !!!

We found the solution :

It was a set of rules in microsoft operation manager 2005 which request on ica and xml citrix ports. It's an utility which can be used alone (not only with MOM)

We stopped theses rules and since 1 week : NO problems.

We are looking if problems come back.

bye
