i have a server that is a nt 4.0 sp6a box running metaframe 1.8. roughly 35 clients use citrix in a part PC and part Terminal enviroment.

the problem im having is when the terminals shut down at night. if 3 or more terminals shut down it locks the winlogon.exe service on the nt server at 99% and no one can use citrix till it releases.. after 5 minutes it lets go and everyone can log off or continue working. it only happens when the first 3 log off. if i log off 5 terminals at once it will lock things up for 10 minutes. the pc's you can shut all down at the same time and it doesnt lock the server. ive seen some articles with 2000 TS sp 4, but these dont seem to match.. im running the latest sp for terminal server and nt 4..

any help or advice would be great..

Ken, although you are patched on the NT/TSE level how about your Metaframe patch level (have you applied Service Pack 4 for MF1.8)?

yes, sp 4 was the last one to be added to it just recently.. actually added to try to fix this problem.

Does this happen with the same set of users? It is quite possible that one of the profiles on the Citrix box is corrupt.

Maybe this will help:

ICA and Terminal Server Sessions Hang

This may help also, although it was supposed to be fixed in SP2, but it won't hurt to look:

Performance Problem Because of Contention on CmpRegistryLock

Citrix say that this can be the cause also:

Spooler Failure Causes High CPU Usage in the Winlogon.exe and Spoolsv.exe Processes on a Windows 2000 Terminal Server

"In space, nobody can hear you click..."

No it doesnt matter which terminals you log off of all at once.. and to make it more interesting it isnt effected by pc's.. just the terminals..

Do the terminals use any management software? If so, is it the latest version? Any FAQ's by the terminal manufacturer and or Citrix for that brand?
