We are currently just rolling out XP Pro Desktops and unforunately have no one in our Desktop Area that knows anything about the security between XP Pro and NT Domains. I'm a NT Admin in the domain but when I try to access a server on the domain I get a pop up window asking for my user name and password. My username is always prefixed with the name of the desktop person who set my PC up.

For Example, "KSMITHXP\domainadmin" is what is in the username. I'm sure that's not correct, my name isn't KSMITH. Another problem I've ran into is if I can reach the server I get a message that states I do not have permission to access this folder, contact administrator (me). Is there a way to turn off or down the security on these XP boxes, I still have my W98 box running and I have none of these issues with 98 and NT accessing the same servers. I would appreciate any help/tips/articles!!!!! Thanks

Right click "My Computer" and take Properties. Select the Computer Name tab and check the "Full Computer Name" and also the Domain information.

Maybe some put "KSMITHXP" in because "KSMITH" already existed on the network.

Use the Change button to set the computer name etc and join the Domain.

Also at logon click the Options button and check that you are actually trying to log onto the domain. New Zealand, a great place to live.
