anyone know of an easy way to promote a member server to a pdc without reinstalling?
thnx in advance.

No choice, you have to reinstall on NT4. Back the data up for restore after you rebuild.

Good luck.

thanks dude...that's what i thought, but i wasn't sure if there was a utility for this now.

Actually there are utilities out there (3rd party) that will do this for you. For example: UPROMOTE will do this for you...

However, there is nothing supported directly through MS that will do this for you. I would rather rebuild a server as a domain controller first and then restore the data....

Hope this helps.. Joseph L. Poandl

Stay away from the third party stuff. In my experience it has always been a nightmare. Everyhting seems to be working fine, then you do one simple change, and POW! Reinstall time. Cut to the chase and save yourself the trouble.

Yup reinstall. You know MS is fickle in the norm anyway, why fiddle with it. If you dont spend the time upfront reinstalling,... you'll spend the time on the back tryn to fix stuff.
