Do I need to have the "server" service started on a wk machine when trying to install bera 10.0 .

If server service is enabled or set to manual, the bera install is successful. If server service is disabled, bera install fails.

I am trying to harden/secure a w2k server by turning off the server service among others.

thanks

Yes thats part of Windows Network and is a requirement for File/Print Share and for most of the services to start.

Yes what? I know the server service is "a requirement for File/Print Share". I would disagree that is needed for most services to start. remote agent is the only service on the web server that relies on it. The bakup agent does not even require "File/Print Sharing". You can use IP address under "user defined selection" in the selection list of BE

The only other two services that rely on the server service are "Computer browser" and "distributed file system". Both of which I have disabled to harden the web server.

Anyone know if It is possible to install remote agent without the server service?

Thanks
