We have a Windows 2000 server that is logging in to a Novell 4.10 server. Sometimes it works right away, other times it doesn't log in and displays an error message saying that "the user does not exist". And yet if we type the wrong password it recognizes if it is the wrong password.

The user has a valid Novell account, and the client and protocol settings seem right on the windows server. Sometimes it will login after waiting a few minutes.

The servers are connected by a cable modem and we were wondering if that could be causing the problem?

The complete error message was: "Netware authentication faliure. You cannot be authenticated on the tree due to the following reason: the specified user does not exist. Do you want to select another user or context?"

We tried giving the user rights as a Super user, and still had the same problem.

HI!

While you have the problem, check also the
CONSOLE screen (the command input) on the Netware server,
and also the
MONITOR
screen - from the bottom menu choose "Connection Information",
and check if your user appears as logged on while you have the error.

This will help you troubleshoot.

Bye
