I have just instaaled a new IBM pc with XP Pro, I downloaded Novell Client 4.90 with SP2 which our other 5 workstations run.

After install I cannot connect to the Novell Server, the only difference I have found to other workstation is the Protocol Preferences in the Novell Client for WIn properties.

The existing workstations have Protocol IPX and component setting of Bindery,NDS,SAP and on the new workstation the Protocol is IP and component setting are NDS, Host File,DNS,SLP, DHCP NDS. I have re-installed but still have problem.

any help would be much appreciated

Thanks
JP

The reason IPX needs to be custom installed is because you cannot connect/talk to a NetWare 4.x server via IP.

Thanks for tyhe replies, I have used the custom install and solved the problem.

Another small problem, how do I change time on Novell Server? I need to change one hour back? Workstations are showing incorrect times.

Will changing time have any effect on Network?

Thanks
JP

Your workstations get time from the server, but changing it on the server won't necessarily fix your problem. Your workstation will adjust based on the time zone settings. Usually when workstations are 1 hour off, that is the problem.

Check time zone settings on clients and server to make sure they are set the same.

I change the time on zone settings but after reboot it goes back one hour, can I stop client from getting time from server?

JP

You don't change the time, you change the time zone. the time will adjust. just make sure the server and workstation time zones match as well as the daylight savings status. It's better to not turn it off, but I think you can disable it in the client settings.

The workstation is definately getting the incorrect time from the Novell Server, I need to advance the server time by one hour but not sure what command to use to change..

JP

The command is SET TIME followed by the correct time. you want to do it so that it includes am/pm and the date if necessary...

for example..

'set time april 30, 2005 4:15pm mst'

you don't necessarily have to put the date in.. but can.

I tried the set time command and I get the following prompt.

"Time synchronization is active on this server, are you sure you want t o change time?

I type Y but time does not change.

Thanks
