Hi,

I have a laptop with the Novell Client 4.90 SP2 installed and XP. The user will seldom be connecting to an A.D. domain. I want the user to default to logging on to the machine name rather than the active directory domain. I have looked in the Advanced Login properties of the client but cannot see where to set the windows login information to default to the machine name rather than the domain. I could remove the laptop from the domain but this would mean having to add the laptop each time the user wants to access files on the domain. Can anyone help?

I would try this:

Open the network connection properties, choose Novell Client for Windows, Properties. Look for a tab called Location Profiles. Highlight the default profile and choose properties. In the top pull-down menu you should see Login Service, and in the second pull-down menu you should see Default. Click Properties. You then get the default login settings for that profile. Click the Windows tab and choose the local username you desire. In the From pull-down menu you should be able to select either your local machine or the Active Directory domain.

Worked a treat! Thanks very much.
