This is a new Compaq notebook with Windows 2000 Pro freshly installed. We have NT and Novell servers on our network, the client version is 4.81.
After bootup, the login sceeen comes up, and the title bar says "Begin Login" but underneath (the part where it's supposed to read "hit CTRL-ALT-DEL to login") it is just blank gray!
Hitting CAD does work, bringing up the appropriate login window, and everything else appears to be fine, but I'm just curious as to how to fix this. I've tried uninstalling, and when I did, the straight NT CAD screen looked correct, not missing anything. Then I reinstalled the Novell client, and the Novell CAD screen was back the same, messed up version.

Doesn't look like anybody here has any ideas, but hopefully if someone else in the future encounters this, this info will be helpful to them...
The particular image that is NOT loading is called NWELCOME.BMP. Any bitmap can be used in place of this, and the setting that controls what is used is in Novell properties, Advanced Login, Welcome Screen.
Naturally, I checked for the existence of NWELCOME.BMP on this PC, and found it in C:\WINNT. I could open it just fine in Paint, so it doesn't seem to be corrupt. I even tried typing the path to this .bmp, in case the OS couldn't find it for some reason, but no luck.
I also tried setting it to use a different .bmp altogether, and oddly enough, The CAD screen is still gray, it won't load ANY image for the Welcome Screen. (!) I was able to change the caption from here, however, so it's not totally wonky. Maybe I'll just change the caption to read "Hit Ctrl Alt Del to Login..." [sad]

Eureka!

The problem was found. This PC was set to only display 256 colors. I switched it to 16 bit, and the NWELCOME.BMP displays fine now! It must not render into only 256, so the OS just grays the whole thing out. Funny, it's not the most complicated image...
