how do you adjust time on netware 4.11?
i have w2k workstations and then a Novell File server. If my Novell Server says "time is synchronized to the network", does it mean my w2k wrkstns get their time from the novell server? or it's the opposite?
Using the Netware client, go to the "Advanced Settings" tab and scroll down to "Set Station Time" and set to on. Your client will then sync to the server.
Is this what you wanted or do you want to change the time on the server? (I'll have to look up my notes if you do.)
you said "IF MY Netware server is synched...." Your NetWare server should ALWAYS be in synch with the correct time. otherwise you will have probs.
The Server should NEVER gets it's time from a workstation. In fact, it won't ever unless you run a utility on your workstation to act as a time serrver, and then point the novell server to it (not recommended).
Standard operation is for the client to get the time from the server.
Setting the time on server depends on a few things.
Is there a single Novell server in the tree? You indicated yes to this.
How far is the time off? Is it in the future?
If the server is set too far into the future you/your users may have problems if you adjust from the console and your server will issue "Synthetic Time" until it catches up. If not set it at the server console with the following command:
SET TIME = hh.mm.ss <Enter>
If the server time is too far into the future user the Time Offset setting in Monitor, it will eventually catch up.
hi! thanks for all your replies...
my novell server was 7 minutes fast, so my software (installed on novell) that rings the bells in our company, makes those bells ring 7 minutes early...even though the w2k wrkstn (that had the shortcut to that software) time is right...i only have the Netware Client provided by Microsoft installed on the and not the Novell client v4.83...so my employees complain that they always come in late but are happy that they are leaving early...
after adjusting the time on the novell server, my bells rang on time...
