Not seeing graphics in design mode when saving word doc as .html

ok, I save a word doc as .html and then edit the page in Frontpage, but when I do none of the images show up. They are there since they show up when I preview the page; it's just in edit mode I can't see them. If I can't see them I can't move/edit them. I've added new images and they disappear as soon as I add them, however they too show up in preview mode. I downloaded a trial copy of Dreamweaver and it does the same thing. Is there a setting keeping the images from showing that I'm not aware of?
