I have installed legato 7.2 on a windows workstation and have two extabyte mammoth-2 scsi drives attached to it.

The drives are 8mm with 20gig native and a 40gig compressed cababiltiy. The tape drive has hardware compression enables and so does the client but I am only getting 20 gigs on the tape. I even definded the tape capacity on the drives as 40 gig and relabeldd them but no joy.

Any thoughs?

Try to delete the old data with TAPEEXER first. The problem is that all SW products try to read the label first. If a tape has been written already, the drive will adjust to the density found and will switch a preselected density. Consequently you must use a utility which does not look for a label.
