I am still trying to fix my daughters taskbar down to one line. I tried the suggestions I got last night but still is large. This wouldn't be a big problem but she only has a 15" monitor and needs the little extra. I thought maybe it was because the icons were large so I tried to get to display but I got this error message: Application or DLL C:\windows\system32\MSIMG32.DLL is not a valid windows image. I don't use XP so I have no idea what to do. I went back a week and did a restore yesterday but still a problem. Any help is greatly appreciated.

You might try running the system file checking program by typing Sfc /scannow in the run box and have your installation CD handy.

If it becomes too much of a problem (the Taskbar) and you can't get any of the fixes to work, including system restore, or SFC then I suggest you repair windows by re-installing it over itself. You wont lose any files but it will be necessary to replace your windows updates.

REPAIR WINDOWS

Boot from XP CD
(Windows will now load some temporary files)

Options after booting

*To Set Up Windows XP now press ENTER

*To Repair a Windows XP installation using Recovery Console, press R

*To Quit Setup without installing Windows XP, press F3

Press ENTER for first option (don't select Recovery Console)
(Accept Eula agreement)

Follow onscreen instructions to repair windows installation

If you want some information on the "not a valid image" have a look here.

When you get these kinds of problems, a chkdsk /r is the first thing to do - you'd be amazed how many problems happen because of disc hiccups. After that, follow the sfc /scannow advice - but remember to run windowsupdate afterwards.

And because this is tied to the video display, you might try downloading and installing the latest video drivers. Longshot, but might help.
