....so, a client of ours wants to do something along the lines of what facebook does when allowing people to invite friends to join. you know the whole enter your web email and password and then the system gets all of the email addresses and names from that account, and then sends an email to those people etc etc. For want of a better description i'm calling this email harvesting.

Looking around i have seen various things, most of them are insane. The system would need to work with all of the major web mail systems, and apparently hotmail is a pain in the ass (no surprise!)

Has anyone done anything like this? Seen any code examples? Know a better term that email harvesting?

You're right in that CF can't access a clients address book. Maybe a better term is Read Client Address Book. Just about any term sounds better that email harvesting. LOL

Maybe you should try an ActiveX or Java Applett forum.
