We like Techtool. Our experience has been very good with it. It has located some
obsecure problems. On the other hand, we have witnessed many users have
problems CREATED by using Norton Utilities, forget identifying existing ones!
Techtool is generally the best problem 'fixer' I have used but the file optimistation is much better in Norton.
Whatever you do, it is not a great idea to use both applications on the same system, to both fix problems and optimise, use the one application for both operations. If you don't you may inadvertantly corrupt your disks.
We use Norton (5.x) exclusively though I am more than anxious to try Tech Tools. I can't complain about the use of Norton here. We've got a LAN of about 150 macs including ibooks (airport connected). Most of the machines are now up to at least os 8.6 and more than a handful run 9.0.4
Norton has treated us well and we use it madly in the off-season to defrag and optimize all our drives.
I have used both with not problems. I usually use Norton for everyday maintenance and the odd hard disk fix. It's interesting to note that Apple shipped the "lite" version of TechTools with my G3PowerBook. I've upgraded to full, registered version, but have not had to use it - knock on wood, or a digital equivalent thereof.
