By default is norton supposed to auto update itself? I have seen around 10-15 servers that are not autoupdating themselves. under virus definitions in system console there is an option on the bottom that says continous live update? is this the option that needs to be checked for norton to autoupdate?

Thanks, PAUL

Depends on how you want to set your servers up. Have you configured the server so it knows where to get its update? Are you using an enterprise edition and the Symantec System Console? Are there more than one AV Managers?

It gets its updates from nortons ftp. yes i am using enterprise and the symantec system console. only 1 antivirus server in each location..each location is a different client.

Thanks, PAUL

There could be many reasons why they are not updating.

Have they been getting there updates before and now they aren't. If so you could have possibly recieved a bad update. Check in \Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\Virusdefs and look for an unusual amount of definitions folders or Temp dirs. If you see this then go to the following site:

If they haven't ever recieved them then right click on the client under its server group and select properties. Check the Liveupdate tab to see how it is cofigured. If it is the client that is not recieving the update then point them to there parent server.

Hope this helps
