Hello all,

I have a Nortel phone system that I'm having some issues with. First off, I'm not really much of a Nortel person so my experience is a little limited.

I have a phone system that was installed by a company - which is no longer in business.

We have a punchdown block with 3 phone lines on it, which is attached to the phone system. When they first installed it, they only ran 2 phone lines into the phone system.

My question is, how to I program the system/phones to accept the 3rd line from the block?

Also, they're reporting that when someone calls in on the main number, it sometimes doesn't ring on the phones at all.. Has anyone else ever had this problem?

I have a spare phone system in my office that I have been playing with, but I can't figure out how to get it to accept the 3rd line and how to put it on the soft buttons.

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks!

Excellent.

Thanks for that.

When I add the 3rd line to the correct position on the block will it automatically show up on the phone as a line?

Quick answer - no.

If the phone DN is at default, lines 1 and 2 will appear and ring. However, if the phone has been programmed for the line, it will be there, it may have been provisioned in anticipation of being used, but from your post, I would guess not.

If you are not comfortable hopping into programming yet, try doing a Feature * 0 and then press each line button and watch the display. If you see LINE 03 show up, then you know that button is there. You will need to do that on each phone to see if any have that line (unless you hop into programming). If not, then you will have to add that line to each set that you want it to appear or appear and ring on.

Before jumping into programming, I would suggest you locate the manuals for your system and do a little prep, lest you tweak something you do not intend to tweak.

Also, is there a voice mail unit involved? That will impact programming if present.
