question... just started here and the previous engineer never utilized a PCMCIA card to backup his Meridian 11C. I just ordered a couple of cards, but noticed thru some literature on line that a blank card would need to be updated by the folks at Nortel before it could be used to backup the system...

is this true or is there a way around this that maybe I can download what's needed off the internet somewhere? thanx in advance...

I have never had a problem using a PCMCIA card I bought, but I have seen posted here to use win/98 to format it but don't use win/2000 or win/xp.

If it is a new card you should not have to format it.
What brand card is it? Nortel recommends using Sansdisk.

don't know brand yet... I just placed the order.

when using LD 143, would I use the archive command as well?

PCMCIA card sizes are still a problem!. For the Option 11c systems, you can't use a 512 Meg / 1 Gig Compact Flash card. You can however still use a 40 Meg PCMCIA card. I've just loaded up a test 04.95m system with one. The 64 Meg cards seem to be the best ones to use.

If you have a 40,48 or 64 Meg card etc. Hang onto it!. Don't give it away. Some of my colleagues are finding them hard to obtain now as the industry tends to be using 513 meg onwards.

As stated above. Don't format them on a Win 2000 or XP machine. Only delete / move or copy files etc.

All the best

If it's working, then leave it alone!.

where I work, I don't make the order's myself... I have to contact my gov't rep. Initially, I tried getting one and was told they weren't available (guessing they're talking about the aforementioned cards). I called another company and told them that I needed the PCMCIA cards and was told that they were available... now watch them be the ones your referencing (513).

If this is the case... is there anyway to get them to work? thanks..

I have also heard some people be successful with a compact flash and a PCMCIA converter.
