We had one license server up and running for quite a while at our main office supporting 2050's without any issue. We recently installed a second license server at our main data centre so we could roll out 2050's to that team. Now none of the 2050's seem to work. We get registartion errors and it seems like both license servers are responding to license requests when a softphone starts. My question is - do we need two license servers - can we operate two license servers at the same time? This was the design our vendor delivered but once the second box came on line everything stopped working.

Looking for some feedback or direction.

NICE!!! Interesting that your vendor would place a 2nd license server - I don't know what the config should be, but based on your issue it would seem that the i2050's are confused at which one to 'talk to' to acquire the license. Is it possible that you can shut one down and transfer the licenses to the other box (just run one) to see if all the phones work? Could be a possible other issue over the WAN or something depending on where your LMs reside and where your CS1000 resides.

2050v3 licences can be provided from a single licence server to muliple switches so agree that you really don't need two. You also configure the IP address of the licence server in the 2050v3 client so the alternative is to ensure that it is configured to point to a single correct server based upon location.

Thanks for the feedback / confirmation of something that has been bothering me about this trouble. We are going to shut down the new license server and poitn all the 2050's back to the original guy and see how we make out. The next fun step will be getting Nortel to transfer the licenses from the new box to the old one.

I'll try and remember to repost a result when we know more.

Hello Gents,

it is better to split your licensees to more servers, so if one fails, all Soft phones are down, if you split it some of them will work, also you can choose per set which one will be the preferred one, so for example always licensees will be available for the company management

regards
Fritz

IP Softphone 2050v3 will run for up to five days without being able to access the licence server.
