Hello, our office has a Nortel Norstar phone system (the bottom of the phone reads "NT8B40AE-35"), and the only person who knew how to use the admin features is no longer at our office. We are trying to access the main greeting (that someone reaches when we are closed, or on the weekends, etc). Right now there is a message recording by one of our office members (the one who knew how to use this system) and it goes on to say press 1 for Dr. so and so and press 2 for Nurse so and so, etc. We need to change this greeting since the people who work here and where their mailbox is has changed. Does anyone know how to do this? We have the phone manual but it seems to be at least 15 years old and the instructions are very hard to follow and don't really make sense. If anyone has any knowledge on how to get to the point where we can re-recording this main greeting and where we list what number to press for each person that would help us out so much! Also, we thought we had found the admin password and it was letting us access admin features, but five minutes later that admin password is not working...? If you know anything that might help us out we would really appreciate it. Thank you so much!!

The number from the bottom of the phone suggests that you have a M7324 phone, probably associated with your main or receptionist station, but it does not tell us what phone system you have or which voicemail.

To help you, we will need to know the numbers from the "boxes" in your telephone closet.

The features you mention are often associated with a CCR tree that would often be available in a voicemail unit. Given the age, you probably have a Startalk A or B or C or maybe a Startalk Mini or Startalk Flash. You could look for CCR in your manual, and see if that focus brings you closer.

Guessing at your comfort level with phone programming, you may need to consider some on-site support. While CCR tree updates are not the most complex programming, there is a moderate degree of complexity and if the manual is already challenging, the truth is that there is no real "quick and easy" way to shortcut building or editing a CCR table.

For passwords, if you have a genuine manual, it will instruct you how to change passwords, of if you locked yourself out, it will guide you to changing the main passwords back to defaults. There is also a debug process in the FAQ section, but that requires more than beginner skill to use.

Once you know what you have for voicemail, you could also use the search function in this forum for CCR programming, and get a primer that way.

Here is a good forum thread to get you moving in the right direction:
