Ok, I'm trying to go from a pc headset with 3.5mm microphone and headphones jacks(I've stripped the jacks off and am working with bare wire at this point) to a 4p4c("RJ9") handset jack going into a nortel meridian phone. I've seen several styles of 4p4c pinouts, varying by manufacturer, however I have yet to find a pinout for a nortel meridian handset(4p4c). Does anybody know the wiring for the handset? I've been messing with it, so far I've only gotten it to where I can hear the caller, but the microphone I have yet to set up successfully. THere are many tutorials on how to make an adapter for a PC Headset to a 4p4c for various types of handset plugs(Cisco, standard phone headset, etc), and they sell these adapters ( or ( however I'm broke right now and for now I can only make an adapter. Does anybody know the wiring for the handset plug on a nortel meridian? Thanks.

the two center conductors are rec.. the outside leads are rec. if your lucky enough to have colored conductors the two white ones are rec and the red and black are transmit

So white is for the microphone and red and black is for the output(speakers)? as I have it mine is red white white black. Going from red to black(left to right, i.e. RWWB) which would be the signal and the ground? like, +-+- or
++-- or -+-+ or --++? And this would be for a nortel meridian? Do the microphone and output grounds have to be wired together(i.e. have to be touching to share signal?)Thanks.

white is for the speakers .. receive pair

I checked this link at first to get an idea, he says he used a nortel handset does that wiring look right? I'm going to try your wiring, it looks like he says to do the reverse wiring, but I think I've tried it that way and it didnt' work. Anyway, thanks for the info.
