I have been having a tough time getting optimal speed/response time on a couple of my networks here. On my networks, i use Nortel(bay) 350 24 T switches, and bay 255 autosense hubs. I am, however noticing a lag in response time and a noticeable drop in the speed of file transfers. It appears that the problem only occurs when I use the hubs... When i plug my ftp server directly into the switch and plug a laptop on the switch also... my transfer rate is fine, but when I plug them into the hub there is a noticeable lag and drop in the transfer rate. I initially thought that it was the autosense hubs that was causing slow down so i purchased a bay 253 managed hub, cascaded the hubs together, consoled into the managed hub and forced all the port speeds to 100Meg full duplex. I also disabled autonegotiate on the switch and set the port speed to 100Meg full, but I have not had any success. I was thinking that maybe it could be an issue with the firmware version on the switch and the hubs but I don't know. Has anybody out there had a similar problem... how did you handle it? Help please!!! Thanks

We had the same problem. All we did was set our ports to Half duplex and lived with it.
My suggestions are what I would try myself. If incorrect, I welcome corrections to my knowledge.
