Sure! All you have to do is power down (hopefully the capacitors are good)replace just the PCMCIA card NOT the cartridge and power back up again.
You should be good. Again, this is assuming that the capacitor in the cartridge and on the back plane are good. You won't really know if they are good or not until you do cycle power. MRoberts

The PRI code is based on your system ID number. SO for instance if you tried to Re-use an upgrade tool, it will change your system ID number and therefore fry your PRI code.

I'm about to do the same thing on the same scenario, but I need to replace the NVRAM cartridge as well, because there's a problem with memory loss. So I do need to do a back up and restore. Does this mean the system ID will change and I need to get another PRI code??? Say it ain't so..
No, if you use the exact same software then doing a back up and restore will save your stuff. Just so long as you aren't replacing the cabinet.

MRoberts, I want to understand the what you are saying about re-using the upgrade tool that causes a system ID change. Change to what? When 4.0 was released, we bought two upgrade tools, one for MICS and one for XC and have been using the same ones for all upgrades that require a tool. We haven't had any issues with system ID's, I'm somewhat confused... DueE
When we tested it here we got a brand new tool. We then upgraded our test switch from some ungodly low software level to 5.0.
Worked great.
Then we took that same upgrade tool and went to our second MICS and tried to upgrade it to 5.0 and it changed the system ID number. Everytime we put that used upgrade tool into the machine, it changed the system ID to something else. Just other numbers. We did it like 20 times and they were different numbers every time.
Since our PRI codes were based on the original system ID number, we "fried" our codes.
If you aren't using things like PRI codes or MCDN codes, then it wouln't matter and you should be able to reuse them all day long but if you are using system ID generated codes then beware.... MRoberts
