So, I renamed the normal.dot for a user in her profile because Word keeps hanging and I reinstalled Office but it still hangs. Hoping for corruption in normal.dot rather than a reinstall of the system. Anyway, went back into Word and all her normal.dot settings are still there. Searched for any other normal.dot's on her system and where she has access to on the network and found none. It didn't make a new copy either like I'm used to it doing when I rename the old one. Any ideas on where the settings are coming from? I even changed some, close Word and reopened and the changes saved (view settings). However, no new normal.dot anywhere.

The settings you are seeing - and possibly the source of the problem as well - could be held in the registry. Rename the [blue]HKCU\Software\Microsoft\11.0\Word[/blue] key to force Word to create a new one and see if that solves the problem.

Alternatively it could be a network problem. Does the user have any Word files (Tools > Options > File locations) set to network files?

Enjoy,
Tony
