I have a file on shared server. Not everyone has this server mapped to the same drive letter. So let's say there's a macro within the DB to open a spreadsheet or another file. For me the path would be E:\This\That\file.xls
but for someone else in another state the path may be G:\that\file.xls
Is there a way to make this file and path relative to the user without having to rewrite everything?
Any help would help a heap.

Have you tried \\servername\directory\this\that\file.xls ???

Nope. This doesn't work, I get a network error and a message saying it's already opened. If I change the path to include the drive then it's fine. Anyone?

Telsa is correct. The format is refered to as "URL addressing". I do not know how you went about attempting the use, but the error is in your implementation. URL addressing is the only way I know to correctly refer to the single point of reference from disparate points in the network.

As a guess, the error was derived from attempting to open the db from within the app - which was already open -from the app.
