You cannot uninstall WMP it is part of Windows and the XP operating system.

Did your other thread solve your problem anyway?

how to shut down wmplayer burn engine so other burner software will ru

Additional Information (wmp 9 Download site).

How to uninstall in Windows Millennium Edition, Windows XP Home Edition, or Windows XP Professional

Use System Restore in Windows. Windows Media Player 9 Series will be removed and the previous version of the Player will be restored. Any CD tracks copied to your computer will remain, and the previous version of Windows Media Player will be able to play this audio content.

As far as I know this the only uninstall option for wmp 9. That would only be really viable for a week or so after install, otherwise using System Restore may cause more problems than it fixes, by undoing a lot more than just wmp.

Another option which may revert to wmp 8 (depending on how old your XP CD is) is to reinstall Windows and do all the updates and Service Packs again except don't install wmp 9.

You also have access to mplayer2 already included with XP.

There are also third party players around such as Juke Box and Win Amp etc. (see Google).

If you go for another player you may need this.

In xp pro under control panel on the left add remove windows components scroll down uncheck WMplayer and it inistalls but in thXP home the WMplayer check box is not there

Checking both Pro and Home versions the check box for Windows Media Player is present.

All this check box will do is add or remove access to Windows Media Player from the Start menu and Desktop.

The install of WMP is automatically done when you install Windows. There is no uninstall but you can make other players the default player.

Well, On a machine with xp pro i un checked the box and wmp was gone after the restart, Anyway I know that the burn engine can be terminated in the task manager / processes ima*** something-or-other this some times work.
then where on a pre installed OEM maching is the windows program located.

Which Windows program are you asking about? Most programs are located in either the Program Files or the System32 folders but can be installed at setup in various locations.

If you know the name of the exe file you can use Search to find any program. If you are chasing hidden or system files there are two options that have to be set in Folder Options/ View to allow you to see them. Options (Preferences) have to also be set in Search for it to search hidden and system files.
