Hi, I can't get a signal to my monitor anymore?

I had a few problems and had to replace the hard drive, I also bought a new 350watt PSU as I have a few extra devices inside my box. I have a faily new Matrox G450 Dual head and when I first turned it on I had power and signal to the primary monitor (usual) I went into the BIOS and set the hard drive up and for it to boot from the CD-ROM and when I turned it back on again I couldn't get the monotor to show me anything.

I have a spare AGP card (Creative TNT 32mb) so I tried that, but still nothing. Then I tried an old PCI 4mb card and still no signal to the monitor?

Does anyone know what it might be? Or what else I can test?

The monitors work fine as I have plugged them into a different computer, they get their power from the mains supply. Apart from it being the Motherboard I don't know what else it could be?

Thanks in advance for any help.

It sounds like the computer isn't POSTing and starting the BIOS routine. Your hardware is most likely fine. You probably screwed something up in the BIOS and now it can't POST. You should try clearing the CMOS and see if it boots. If you don't know what that is or how to do it, reply back and someone can give you more detailed instructions.

Another possiblity is your memory. If the first 1mb of RAM is bad a PC will not POST. The easy check is if you have more than 1 RAM chip in the computer is to switch them and see if the PC will POST. If it does the RAM chip(s) that was in slot 1 is bad.

cheers guys, I'll test that when I get back. I'll pop the battery and that should reset the bios, hope it's that and not the RAM X-)

Still not working, I took the battery out for a while and tried that, then I took the memory out one by one and put them back in one by one, making sure that I tried each one turning the power on and off each time.

I guess it could be the mother board, but other than buying a new one I don't know a way of finding this out.

Any suggestions?

Does it sound like it really is just a problem with the monitor signal or the computer not booting. As in, when you restart it, does it have lights flashing on the keyboard, making it's usual beeping sounds, the drives spinning up etc.? If it's not booting at all then it would probably just sit there and not make any sounds or lights flashing etc. If it doesn't boot then I would try putting the old Power supply in in case that is causing you a problem. If it still doesn't work then it would be starting to sound like the mobo died. If it does make it's usual booting sounds, then maybe it has something to do with the video. Just try to narrow down what's actually at fault.

How about taking it back to basics, M/B , video, mem, PS, and as few offboard connectors as possible. Then to the old PS. Wouldn't be the first PS to die young. Ed Fair
