I have recently had allof my usb ports quit working....5 on board and 4 on PCI card. I have uninstalled all of the devices with device manager...and XP PRO found them all, But they all have messages in Device Manager that say that the drivers are intalled correctly, but the hardware cannot be found? Any ideas? Thanks!

Its not the devices which are not working it is the USB ports. uninstall them let XP reboot and find all the USB ports & install the correct drivers.

A driver was loaded but Windows cannot find the device. This error occurs when Windows does not detect a non-Plug and Play device.

If the device was removed, uninstall the driver, install the device, and then click Scan for hardware changes to reinstall the driver. If the hardware was not removed, obtain a new or updated driver for the device.

If the device is a non-Plug and Play device, a newer version of the driver might be needed. To install non-Plug and Play devices, use the Add Hardware wizard. Click Performance and Maintenance on Control Panel, click System, and on the Hardware tab, click Add Hardware Wizard.

On the General Properties tab of the device, click Troubleshoot to start the Troubleshooting Wizard.

Have you reinstalled Windows? If so, you need to reload the mobo drivers which support USB. You may want to do that anyway.

I have a nice SOYO mobo (Raid, and all), that has no USB ports recognized. This happened when a USB peripheral shorted, and took out all USB ports. It works OK with a PCI USB card. Obtain a USB add-in card, and try. You may have a bad mobo.

I have tried an add-on card....xp finds new hardware..installs the drivers...then atells me again, that the drivers are installed but the hardware cannot be found?

I think it is time to repair XP
Insert your SP2 CD.. and re install with it...
You do have the SP2 CD.??

yep...DO you mean the SP2 disk...or the XP PRO licensed copy with SP1? I have both....I didn't realize that the SP2 disk had a repair function on it. I will try that ...thanks!
