I just did a reinstall of SQL Server 2005 after backing up a database. I restored the database. I noticed I had to drop one of my users who still existed in sysusers because I needed to recreate that user in the new fresh install of SQL Server 2005. Ok, so I did that.

If I logon to my database via Windows Authentification, I see SQL Server Agent running in Management Studio.

If I disconnect then log back onto my database again using a new user (same user that was in my previous database that I restored) I do not see SQL Server Agent at all on my left pane in Management Studio.

What do I do and why is this happening?

Sounds like permissions to me. What are the permissions on the new user?

Definitely sounds like permissions. Your windows account is probably part of an AD group mapped to a SQL Account with Administrator rights or to a Server based role that can see such things. The SQL user account probably only has regular database role permissions without any Admin or Server role permissions.

Hope that helps!
