No Sound in windows XP Professional Computers

I have two computers wint Windows Xp pro. Installed.

Both Pc's do not have sound??? I have installed the most current drivers for the soundcards are still no sound.

I lokk into device manager and there is no conflicts, The devices are enabled, I checked BIOS settings and still no sound.

Is there a problem with sound cards in Windows XP ? The sound cards are intergrated into the motherboards.

Please Help.

There is no blanket problem with sound cards on motherboards.

Here are some questions that should help us narrow down the problem.

1) Is this a new motherboard, if not how old is it?

2) What is the make and model?

3) As it is on-board sound is there a jumper on the board that has disabled the sound?

4) Open the control panel and double click on sound and audio devices. In there click on the Audio Tab in here you can set the "Sound Playback Device" make sure this is correct as sometime windows will default this to the speaker on a modem.

5) If it is the correct device then click on teh volume button and make sure that the Front Speaker and Wave volume selectors are at the top and that the mute check boxes are not ticked.

6) If it is still not working you can try turning down the hardware accelertion for the sound card. From the same screen click on the advanced button then on the perfomance tab. In there knock the HardWare Acceleration down a bit.
