Over the last weekend we received an email from abroad addressed one user. However, the 'from' line was empty and even more worrying, several other people received the same email but were not addressed on it. The email contained some sensitive info which the other users should not have seen.

I have looked in the internet header lines but there is no help there as I can only see the mail server which it came from. There is also no mention of any of the other users which also received this email.

The only difference between this and a normal incoming email is that this line appears in the header '(qmail 5887 invoked from network)'

Have scanned for viruses etc but it comes up clean. Have also now filtered out messages without a sender from the exchange manger console.

Does any one know how it is possible to firstly remove the senders info and also to have the email delivered to apparently random people on our network.

I am running into the same problem. I have a client that has something configured where there name or address doesn't appear in the FROM line. Their mail keeps on getting blocked by my SPAM filtering software running on my exchange server.

I'll let you know if I come across anything.
